An innovative interactive method to improve reading ability and literary skills in general was developed by the library department of Kendriya Vidyalaya SAP, Thiruvananthapuram. A digital online publication series named ‘Knowledge Weekly’ were made in the graphic design platform Canva. It was brought out by the librarian, Mrs. Sreena P, who has been publishing them since June 2021
Knowledge Weekly helps in enriching the literary skills and knowledge of children. An edition of Knowledge Weekly includes an idiom, thought, a few facts, news headlines, familiarising a book and its author, and an extract of a paragraph from a book ('An Author's Worldliness'). It also includes students' art and craft, their self-composed poems, travelogs, book reviews etc. After publishing each edition, a quiz (in quizizz) is conducted based on it, and the winners are announced in a page reserved for it in the next edition. Very often, special pages are added as well for important days and to familiarise inspiring personalities ('Talent Icons'). This project helps in providing knowledge in a simple and organised way. It helps flourish our students’ blossoming talents and creativity. Subject teachers also make effective use of Knowledge Weeklies through integrated teaching and learning activities of relevant topics and concepts in their respective subjects.
